This course is a response to the consistent demand for knowledge and skills in planning and executing knowledge and information audits (assessments) and maps to improve the utilization of organisational information and knowledge resources and assets for business performance.
Who should attend: Managers, practitioners, trainers and consultants in knowledge and information management, including records, document, content, knowledge centre, library, systems, intranet and portal managers or editors, systems development and information security, strategic planning, organisational development, and change management.
Why you should attend: Leaders in business and government agree that the ability to exploit knowledge and information as key productive resources is a critical organisational success factor in the knowledge economy. Therefore, information and knowledge policies and strategies should be closely aligned to enterprise strategy in both private and public sector organisations. Knowledge and information auditing and mapping – in other words, the critical and systematic assessment and representation of organizational knowledge and information assets and resources, processes, stocks and flows in relation to the requirements of the enterprise strategy - should be the starting point of any information and/or knowledge management initiative. This is necessary to support the strategic objectives of the organisation and to implement policies to ensure ethical and legal compliance in utilising and exploiting knowledge and information.
What you will learn: The course aims to equip participants with the frameworks, tools and techniques necessary to participate effectively in organisational knowledge and information auditing and mapping initiatives.
Our learning approach: We will progress from an outline of the basic issues to a deeper understanding of the processes and techniques. We will use an interactive workshop format to focus on management issues and method rather than technologies. Previous knowledge and experience of the information/knowledge auditing should be useful but is not a requirement. This is not a master class for chief information officers.
Main Learning facilitators: Dr Ben Fouché, Principal, Knowledge Leadership Associates and Dr Gretchen Smith, Senior lecturer in knowledge management, University of Cape Town. They will be assisted by expert guest lecturers from different organisations who will share their knowledge and experience
